Phoenix: Urban Erotics

Posted by da Front Porch on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 Under: Authors

My birth name is Courtney.  I was born and raised in Warren, Ohio.

I am known primarily for Urban Erotica however my genres have expanded over the years.  My literary journey began when I ventured into writing poetry during my high school years at Warren G. Harding. Some may not agree with my choice of genre however I speak the language of the masses.  I talk about things others may be afraid to.  I strive to be the voice of women specifically, who are afraid of expressing themselves not only sexually but assertively hence the moniker, Phoenix which represents rebirth and the ability to rise from the ashes vigor and new hope.  The individuals in my books nor the language I use in my books are not to misrepresent my own character.   The language is explicit to grab the reader’s attention however each novel has a moral of the story. I talk about sex, oral sex, and masturbation. I talk about STD's, infidelity, abortion, etc. Real Issues.  But I also talk about love and self-love, passion, self-confidence, etc.

My biggest accomplishment as a writer thus far is becoming an Author, but I have done so much to just improve me as a person that I claim everything that I have done to date and I look forward to what is in store.  Under my pseudonym 'Phoenix' I am the author of the bestselling novels under Freedom Ink Publishing, 'Anybody's Somebody' and 'Teach Me' as well as a plethora of published poems.

My debut title graced the world, in the Fall of 2013 via Freedom Ink Publishing's urban imprint, Oppidian before the age of 30.  My next Freedom Ink release entitled 'Teach Me' which follows an unhappily married professor and her scandalous affair with one of her students, was available as of Valentine's Day 2015. Please look out for Magnolia which will debut in June 2016.

You can find my books on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Books A Million, iamauthorphoenix.com, and freedomink365.com/the_books.

Some of my stories do come from personal experiences.  Again, I want to show other women that you can rise above any adversity.  I started from scratch.  And I started with ME.  Some times us as women, need to stop pointing the blame and wallowing in what someone else did to us in the past.  It doesn't matter what they did.  It matters how long we allowed it to happen.  They're always going to be the same.

I'm a natural hustla.  While others were going out and having fun, I was indoors researching the best schools, the best majors, the best companies to work for.  I utilized the libraries and seminars and networking events.  I catered, I've cleaned, I sold books,  I have been a photographer, I have spoke at events for money.  The money was invested in my future.  I have a passion for teaching, writing, and photography so I embarked upon every interest.  I have a Bachelor's of Arts degree which I obtained through Kent State University, a Paralegal Certification and Public Relations Certificate from Penn Foster, a Grant Writing Certification through Fort Hays State University and I am currently attending Bay Path University for my Masters of Strategic Fundraising and Philanthropy.I am a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., as well as the National Council of Negro Women. I own my own grant writing business, London Bridges, LLC, and I am planning on pursuing a Doctorate in 2017.

Reading books by Phoenix provides you with the freedom of expression. The freedom to ask. The freedom to fantasize. As a result of my many supporters across the U.S., I have been featured in Pen'Ashe Magazine, on the cover of Conversations magazine, interviewed on Conversations Live, interviewed onIn The Spotlight with Award Winning Author and Media Personality, Tumika Cain, toured in different cities for book signings, received stellar book reviews and 5 Stars from reputable reviewers.   I also traveled to Atlanta this past March for the STRUT Awards as a nominee for my accomplishments and I came back to Ohio with the STRUT Award in hand.  I have also been chosen to be the face behind a wine brand by Mxology Luxury Beverage and Consulting. This experience has truly been a dream come true and I hope to inspire others to do live out your fullest potential.  My books are available on my website at www.iamauthorphoenix.com as well as Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, and Books a Million.  I'd like to thank ALL of my supporters from day 1, posting poetry on NOTES on Facebook to showing up at my book signings.  It as truly been an amazing ride. And to my husband, my mentor, my giver, my strength, my therapist, my best friend,  I love you.

A week in my life is all about strategy.  As a new wife, I am constantly trying to figure out how to fit EVERYTHING in.  So I technically have 6 full time jobs, Wife, School, Administrative Assistant (Daytime Job), Director of Fundraising and Marketing (Other Daytime job), Author promo, London Bridges, LLC. I schedule some things, others, I wing it and do a little bit each day depending on which is going to give me the most return financially.  But I am a wife is first, foremost, and constant.  No matter how busy I am, I have to take care of home first.
