1. What is your name and where are you from?

Hey everyone, my name is Maya Da-Rell and I’m a native of New Jersey

and I currently reside in Miami, Florida where I attend college.

2. What are your 3 favorite things about modeling?

Modeling to me is like my alter ego, I become a whole different person

when I’m on the runway. One of my favorites things is the transformation, the

before and the after, from the makeup to the outfit to the shoes, it’s like playing

dress up. And then when it’s time for me to hit the stage and I can hear the crowd

and see the lights, gives me a great sensation. I’m ready to put on a show! But

my all time favorite thing about modeling is the energy I get from the crowd. I

become the center of attention and the garment I’m wearing is what I have to sell

so I may add a few turns to my signature walk.

3. Tell us how school is going with you?

I attend Miami International University of Art & Design where I study Fashion

Merchandising. I will be graduating in June 2016 with my Bachelors- Cum

Laude. My college has taught me a lot about the fashion industry and all my

teachers are currently working in the industry. So I learn the inside scoop of

everything, I get to help with Mercedez-Benz Swim Week and Celebrity

fashion shows. I’ve always loved fashion so my ultimate goal is to become my

own CEO and start my own event productions and my line of clothing and

boutique.

5. What has been your biggest accomplishment in the entertainment world?

My biggest accomplishment was being the youngest model, for a great

production company show. My talent and drive is what booked me the job!

I have also directed a large fashion show in Orlando for a famous Ebony

Fair Commentator, for her to believe in my capability at a young age to

oversee the models, music and to coordinate the show says a lot about

how much I have grown.

6. What makes you a positive role model?

I would say I never give up, I am dedicated and consistent in everything I

do. I have an upbeat personality and people like that about me. I’m the only child

so I know what it’s like to be alone. I set goals and make sure I meet them and I

am always open to learning new things.

7. What is one of your goals for 2016?

One of my goals is to become a Visual Merchandiser at my job, H&M. I love

fashion and appealing to the customer’s eye. So I have fun creating and styling.

After I accomplish Visuals for about two years, I plan on accomplishing retail

management.

8. Any shoutouts or last words?

Always keep it Sweet, Chic, and Unique!

9. How did you first get into modeling?

My mom sewed clothes and directed fashion shows that my aunt modeled in, so

it’s in my blood. I grew up around fashion and always watched how my mom took

pride in putting her outfits together from the makeup to her clothes to her

accessories, so I became interested in fashion. Then when I saw runway shows

they gave me great energy and I told my mom “I can do that.” She enrolled me

into a very expensive school and from there it was history. I participated in many

shows and also taught younger teens about modeling and helped direct fashion

shows.

10. When times are hard in life, what made you continue to follow your goal

instead of quit?

My family is everything to me. From a young age my mom told me I always

never wanted any help, I would say “I can do it.” My mom would let me try first

without helping me and that helped me build great self-esteem. I’ve had the

mindset to step out on faith, never say no until you try. When I think of quitting, I

think of my family, they never gave up on me and helped me reach a great point

in my life that there is no room for giving up.
